iMentor builds mentoring relationships that empower students from low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions. Students work with their mentors one-on-one, in-person and online, to develop strong personal relationships, nurture a college aspiration, navigate the college application process, and build critical skills that lead to college success. One of the striking things about iMentor is the level of agency individuals have in the conducting of their work, and the highly specified roles distributed throughout the company. So although there are larger ‘buckets’ that individuals reside within, that have their own clear heirarchy and signifi cant overlap, the company also exhibits a high degree of resistance to typical diagramming and abstraction methodologies to describe the structure. Using this analysis, Method Design strategized the placement of informal and formal areas, while also providing for ample break-out areas for smaller groups and meetings between mentor and students.
