Rahi (formerly Tapestry)
Despite the ubiquity of Southeast Asian Cuisine in New York and the United States, Manhattan high-end restaurateurs have turned a blind eye to this food-type. After opening their hugely successful Indian street-food restaurant Masalawala, the Mazumdar Family turned again to Method Design and the US’s first ‘Indian Cuisine’ Michelin-rated chef, Suvir Savan to take on this problem. The result is the gourmet Indian Food restaurant, Tapestry. The design fed on the owners and chef’s notion of the layered depth of southeast Asian cuisine as it relates to Indian cultural practices focused on weaving, wherein at layers of light, space, material and detail create a rich and dense place for enjoying family-style cuisine.
